Free Appendix 5B template (Excel)
A spreadsheet version of the ASX Appendix 5B quarterly cash flow report, laid out item by item like the form. You fill in the inputs. The template adds up the subtotals, builds Section 4, checks your cash reconciliation, and works out the Section 8 funding runway, including whether you need to answer the 8.8 questions.
What's in it
- Two sheets: a blank form, and a worked example for a small explorer's September quarter that shows the sign convention and a result that triggers the 8.8 questions.
- Sections 1–3: every line item from the form, with current-quarter and year-to-date columns and calculated subtotals (items 1.9, 2.6 and 3.10).
- Section 4: pulls in 1.9, 2.6 and 3.10 and calculates closing cash. You enter only opening cash and any exchange-rate effect.
- Section 5: flags straight away if your reconciliation (item 5.5) doesn't equal closing cash (item 4.6).
- Section 7: calculates unused facilities (item 7.5) from your facility totals and amounts drawn.
- Section 8: calculates items 8.1 to 8.7 from the figures above, shows “N/A” when there's a net inflow, and tells you whether 8.8.1 to 8.8.3 must be answered.
- The compliance statement, and the related-party payments note for Section 6.
How to use it
- Fill in only the yellow cells (blue text). Everything else is calculated.
- Enter amounts in $A'000, with payments and outflows as negative numbers: a $1.85m exploration spend is
-1850. - Check that the Section 5 line says 5.5 equals 4.6, and look at item 8.7.
- Lodge on the current Appendix 5B form from ASX Online, copying your figures across. The template is for preparing and checking, not for lodging.

Where a spreadsheet stops helping
A template checks the arithmetic, but the numbers still have to come from somewhere: usually a separate expenditure spreadsheet per tenement, re-sorted into Appendix 5B categories every quarter. Tenement Track records spend once against each tenement and fills in the Appendix 5B from it, so the quarterly report and the state expenditure reports come from the same figures.
